Sanwo-Olu inspects vandalised Lagos bridge, assures structural safety

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday inspected a vandalised bridge pillar at Vin-Niger along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, assuring residents and motorists that the facility remained structurally safe.
Sanwo-Olu conducted an on-the-spot assessment following viral videos showing the vandalised section of the bridge, which leads into Festac Town.
However, the governor allayed concerns over the safety of the bridge, saying preliminary assessment showed that its structural integrity had not been compromised despite the vandalism.
He commended the Lagos State Police Command, Rapid Response Squad, Lagos State Security Trust Fund operatives, Lagos State Neighbourhood Watch and members of the Kick Against Indiscipline for their prompt response to the incident.
According to him, vandals excavated and removed some fittings used to secure the facility, describing the act as unacceptable and vowing to pursue those responsible, including individuals involved in buying and selling stolen public infrastructure materials.
Furthermore, Sanwo-Olu expressed concern over the persistent vandalism of public infrastructure in Festac Town, citing the destruction of drainage slabs and theft of iron rods along Second and Seventh avenues.
He therefore urged residents to take ownership of public infrastructure by remaining vigilant and promptly reporting suspicious activities to security agencies and relevant authorities, stressing that government could not be everywhere at all times.
Meanwhile, the governor warned that the government would continue efforts to apprehend and prosecute perpetrators regardless of their status, adding that the inspection was part of broader measures to clear the Lagos-Badagry Expressway corridor of illegal activities, protect public infrastructure and ensure the safety of road users.
