Senate screens Taiwo Oyedele as minister of state for finance

The Senate has commenced the screening of Taiwo Oyedele, the nominee for Minister of State for Finance, as part of the confirmation process for his potential appointment.

The screening began following a motion moved by Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, seeking permission for the nominee to be admitted into the chamber.

Oyedele reportedly entered the Senate chamber at about 2:21 p.m. accompanied by other government officials, according to TheCable.

Prior to his nomination, Oyedele had been actively involved in engagements with the President and senior government officials on key economic matters, particularly tax reforms, revenue mobilisation, and broader fiscal policy initiatives.

Discussions during these engagements were said to have centred on strategies to improve Nigeria’s tax administration, expand the country’s revenue base, and strengthen its fiscal framework.

Oyedele previously served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform. The committee was responsible for drafting four consolidated tax laws aimed at reforming Nigeria’s tax system, which came into effect in January this year.
