Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation to 80th UN General Assembly

Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent President Bola Tinubu and lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, scheduled to take place from September 22 to 28, 2025.

The week-long summit, which marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, will feature high-level general debates involving heads of state and government from around the world.

Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement on Wednesday, September 24, during the afternoon session of the General Debate. He will also participate in a special Climate Summit convened by the UN Secretary-General, where Nigeria is set to unveil its updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.

In addition, the Vice President will take part in a high-level roundtable on adequate and affordable housing, hosted by the President of Kenya, along with other bilateral engagements.

Following his engagements at the UN, Shettima will proceed to Frankfurt, Germany, for discussions with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
