Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, on Sunday handed over 22 Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to first-class and second-class traditional rulers in Kaduna State, fulfilling a promise he made last year to bolster traditional institutions.
The handover ceremony, held at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna, was attended by Governor Uba Sani and other top officials.
Abbas, who holds the traditional title of Iyan Zazzau, described the gesture as part of his commitment to empowering royal institutions and reinforcing their role in governance.

“This is a historic day that reflects the collaboration between the Federal Government, the National Assembly, and the Kaduna State Government,” Abbas said, crediting Governor Sani for initiating the conversation on support for traditional rulers.
The 22 vehicles mark the second phase of the initiative. During Ramadan, six SUVs were distributed in Zaria as part of the first phase.
Abbas also noted that the National Assembly is reviewing the constitution to enhance the role of traditional institutions. A new committee, chaired by Hon. Abdulmumini Ari Muhammad, has been set up to focus on traditional affairs.

Governor Sani praised the Speaker’s support and described the intervention as timely. He urged the beneficiaries to put the vehicles to good use in fostering peace and development across their communities.
