Super Falcons rise 8 places in latest FIFA ranking

The Super Falcons moved up eight places to 32nd in the latest World rankings released by FIFA on Friday.
The move was as a result of Falcons performance at the just concluded Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand where they reached the round of 16 before bowing out on penalties to finalists England.
In a group regarded as a group of death, the Super Falcons finished second, defeating co-hosts Australia and playing goalless draws against Canada and Northern Ireland.
Falcons ammased 94.14 points – the second highest within the ranking period to maintain their position as the top-ranked team in Africa.
Sweden – third-placed team at the Women’s World Cup – leapfrogged Germany and USA to rise to the top of the World ranking, while World Cup winners Spain moved up two places to second.
USA dropped to third, while beaten finalists England remained unmoved in fourth. France who were fourth at the Women’s World Cup also remained unmoved, completing the top five.
The remaining top 10 had Germany – previously second in sixth, while seventh and eighth positions remained unchanged with The Netherlands and Japan respectively.
Brazil, formerly eighth, dropped to ninth, while Canada moved down three places to 10th.
Like the Super Falcons, South Africa who also got to the round of 16 of the Women’s World Cup maintained their number two position in the continent, moving up nine places to 45th in the World.
Morocco another round of 16 team at the Women’s World were the highest movers by places and points in the latest rankings raking up 104.22 points and moving up 14 places to No. 58 in the world and fourth in the continent.
Cameroon were Africa’s third-ranked team, unmoved at 56th in the World, while Ghana completed the top five on the continent, ranked 59th in the World.
The next FIFA Women’s Ranking will be published on December 15.
