Supreme Court upholds Farouk Lawan five-year jail sentence for bribery
The Supreme Court on Friday, affirmed the conviction of former member of the House of Representatives, Farouk Lawan’s, who was sentenced to five-year imprisonment for taking $500,000 bribe from businessman, Femi Otedola, the owner of Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd.
The apex court upheld the 2022 verdict of the Court of Appeal, which confirmed the 2021 ruling of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that found Lawan guilty of count three of the three-count charge against him.
The five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice John Okoro, dismissed Lawan’s appeal as lacking merit and affirmed his jail term.
