Tinubu extends working vacation, returns to Nigeria this weekend

President Bola Tinubu has extended his working vacation by a few days and is expected to return to Nigeria at the weekend, the Presidency has said.

Tinubu departed Nigeria on August 30 for London, where he began the vacation before proceeding to Paris, France, after spending a week in the United Kingdom.

During his stay in Paris, the President held meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré, whose business interests include Canal+, Multichoice and Universal Music Group.

Despite being away from the country, Tinubu has continued to direct the affairs of government, including ordering an independent panel to investigate the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Minna, Niger State.

The Presidency said Vice President Kashim Shettima had represented Tinubu at some official functions during his absence.

Shettima, who departed Abuja for New York on September 20 to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly, is representing Nigeria at the global conference and is expected to present the country’s national statement.

The Presidency said the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, would continue to represent the President at official engagements while Shettima is away.

On the political front, the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council, Abubakar Yari, has been leading consultations with prominent traditional rulers alongside other political leaders.
