President Bola Tinubu has established the National Credit Guarantee Company Limited (NCGC), a new financial institution aimed at expanding access to credit for businesses and consumers across Nigeria.

He also appointed the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, as Chairman of the Board.

According to a statement released on Thursday across the official presidential digital platforms, the NCGC is backed by an initial capital of ₦100 billion and is designed to de-risk lending and unlock credit for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), manufacturers, small corporates, and underbanked citizens — including women and youth.

The creation of the NCGC aligns with President Tinubu’s 2025 New Year pledge to promote inclusive economic growth through enhanced access to credit and financial empowerment.

Mr. Bonaventure Okhaimo has been appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, while Mrs. Tinoula Aigwedo and Dr. Ezekiel Oseni will serve as Executive Directors for Strategy & Operations and Risk Management, respectively. Actuarial expert Ms. Yeside Kazeem joins the board as an Independent Non-Executive Director.

The President also appointed representatives from leading financial institutions as non-executive board members. They include Mr. Aminu Sadiq-Umar (MD, Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority), Dr. Olasupo Olusi (MD, Bank of Industry), Mr. Uzoma Nwagba (MD, Nigeria Consumer Credit Corporation), and Mrs. Oluwakemi Owonubi (representing the Ministry of Finance Incorporated).
