Tinubu urges Nigerian doctors in diaspora to return home, strengthen healthcare sector
President Bola Tinubu on Friday appealed to Nigerian medical doctors and other healthcare professionals living abroad to return home and contribute their expertise to the ongoing transformation of the country’s healthcare sector, saying the nation needs their knowledge and experience to build a world-class health system.
Tinubu made the call while receiving a delegation of the Nigerian Diaspora Medical Associations Worldwide at the State House, Abuja, during the 2026 National Diaspora Day celebration.
The President said the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda places healthcare at the centre of national development and is pursuing reforms to strengthen primary healthcare, expand access to quality medical services and reverse the trend of brain drain.
“It is a very great joy to see that you are coming back to facilitate your single motivation to help your country meet the needs of our people,” Tinubu said.
“Seeing your indivisible commitment to humanity is part of your singular oath and commitment in life. I thank all of you.
“I have been through that journey. I’m home now and I can tell you there’s nowhere like home.”
Recalling his own return to Nigeria after working with Deloitte and Touche and Mobil, the President urged the visiting doctors to encourage more Nigerian medical professionals abroad to reconnect with the country.
He said: “Some people built the society where you are; they had their hands on their plough, their focus was to develop their nation and their continent.
