Tinubu urges religious leaders to speak against terrorism, kidnapping, banditry

President Bola Tinubu has urged religious leaders across Nigeria and Africa to play a more active role in tackling terrorism, kidnapping and banditry.

Tinubu made the call at the Kano Grand Maulud of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tijani, where he was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

The President urged religious leaders to use their influence to consistently condemn violent extremism and promote peaceful coexistence among communities.

He also called for greater emphasis on peace education and moral guidance for young people, saying religious institutions have an important role to play in preventing the spread of extremist ideologies.

Tinubu described the Tijjaniyya community as a key partner in efforts to counter violent extremism across the Sahel and West Africa.

The President also paid tribute to the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening regional security, promoting dialogue and fostering peaceful coexistence.

The Grand Maulud attracted Islamic scholars and dignitaries from Algeria, Morocco, Senegal, Egypt and other countries.
