By Mosunmola Ayobami, Ilorin –

The Chancellor of Thomas Adewumi University (TAU), Engr. Johnson Adewumi, has advised newly admitted students to use social media as a tool for personal growth and development rather than allowing it to become a distraction to their academic pursuits.

He gave the charge during the 5th matriculation ceremony of the university held at the school auditorium in Oko on Saturday, where 780 students were formally inducted into the institution.

Engr. Adewumi urged the students to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the university, stressing that degrees would only be awarded to those certified in both learning and character.

The university founder also encouraged the students to become proficient in Information Technology (IT), acquire vocational skills in view of the dwindling availability of white-collar jobs, and participate actively in community service for societal development.

He expressed appreciation to the Oko community for their continued support and hospitality towards the institution.

In her remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Oladipo, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to providing quality education and preparing students with the skills, knowledge, and character needed to thrive in a fast-changing world.

“Today, we formally welcome into our academic community a new cohort of 780 bright young men and women who have chosen to begin their higher education journey with us,” she said. “This ceremony signifies your official induction into the TAU family and a pledge to uphold our core values — discipline, diligence, integrity, and excellence.”

Prof. Oladipo concluded by encouraging the students to embrace hard work and discipline, assuring them that their journey at TAU would be rewarding and fulfilling through God’s grace and personal commitment.
