VP Shettima flags off NASENI skill acquisition programme in Kano

Vice President Kashim Shettima has flagged off the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI)’s nationwide community empowerment programme aimed at equipping youths and women with practical skills in science, technology, renewable energy, and entrepreneurship.

Represented by the Personal Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Subnational Infrastructure in the Office of the Vice President, Musaddiq Mustapha Adamu, the Vice President launched the programme in Kano on Saturday.

The initiative will train more than 160 participants across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones in solar installation and maintenance, mobile phone hardware repairs, electrical appliances and electronics maintenance, welding and fabrication, food processing and packaging, among other vocational skills.

Speaking at the event, Shettima described the programme as a reflection of the Renewed Hope Agenda’s commitment to job creation and youth empowerment through entrepreneurship and skills development.

“Today, NASENI is opening one of those doors. And I want every young person here to walk through it with everything you have. Learn, and apply what you’ve learnt. The government is making an investment in you because it believes the return is worth it,” he said.

Also speaking, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, represented by the Director of General Services, Dr. Ibrahim Abdulkadir, said the initiative was designed to promote innovation-driven human capital development, foster inclusive economic growth, and expand entrepreneurship opportunities through technology and digital learning.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to job creation and commended NASENI for supporting youth and women through innovation and entrepreneurship.

Earlier, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the agency remains committed to developing the country’s human capital by providing market-relevant skills and supporting science education.
