Wike-backed PDP faction suspends Bode George, 23 others in Lagos
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has suspended party elder Bode George and 23 other chieftains over alleged anti-party activities.
The suspension was announced in a statement issued on Friday by Kayode Ogunbiyi, chairman of the Lagos PDP Disciplinary Committee, and the committee’s secretary, Desmond Agho.
According to the committee, the decision followed a meeting held on Tuesday during which petitions alleging anti-party conduct and violations of the party’s constitution were reviewed.
Among those affected are Aduke Maina, Abimbola Ogunkelu, Laja Adeoye, Tunji Shelle, Sunday Olaifa, Gbenga Adegbesan, Rita Orji, Kofoworola Bucknor, Onikepo Oshodi and Idera Sodipo.
Others listed are Adedipe Ewenla, Bode Ogundipe, Aminu Suleiman, Roli George, Adetokunbo Pearse, Adeyemi Moyegun, Taiwo Kuye, Setonji Koshoedo, Muritala Ashorobi, Amos Fawole and Olumuyiwa Richard.
The committee alleged that the suspended members were fraternising with rival political parties in a manner that undermined the interests of the PDP in Lagos State.
It stated that the affected members are barred from participating in party activities and from representing the party in any official or unofficial capacity.
The faction further warned that legal action could be taken against any suspended member found acting contrary to the party’s interests.
