12 schools reach semi-final of KW-IRS Tax Club Quiz Competition

The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, has concluded the preliminary stages of the 2026 Tax Club Quiz Competition, with 12 secondary schools qualifying for the semi-final.

The preliminary rounds began on June 23 with a virtual mock test organised by the KW-IRS Tax Club Advocacy Committee to familiarise participating schools with the online computer-based test format introduced in 2024.

A total of 90 schools registered for the competition, while 87 participated in the online preliminary stage, from which 36 schools advanced to the second round before the final 12 emerged.

The semi-finalists are Government Day Secondary School, Oja Gboro; Saint Anthony’s Senior Secondary School; Ebenezer High School; and Ar-Raheem International College from Kwara Central; Ansar-Ud-Deen College, Offa; Oro Grammar School, Oro; Oyun Baptist High School, Ijagbo; and Hubbullah Islamic Model School, Omu-Aran from Kwara South; as well as Government Secondary School, Lafiagi; Baptist Model High School, Kaiama; Government Secondary School, Ilesha-Baruba; and Lafiagi Senior Secondary School from Kwara North.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Chairman of KW-IRS, Shade Omoniyi, the Convener of the Tax Club Advocacy Committee, Funmilola Oguntunbi, commended the successful conduct of the preliminary rounds and said the agency had upgraded its online platform to improve transparency, efficiency and participants’ experience.

Representing the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, officials Roseline Ayansola and Imam Toyin Olanrewaju praised the participating schools for their commitment and resilience throughout the competition while assisting with backend monitoring and result analysis.

Omoniyi congratulated the 12 qualifying schools for their outstanding performance and also commended principals, teachers and local government coordinators for their dedication, guidance and mentorship during the preliminary stages.

The semi-final will be held virtually in October 2026, with the top six schools progressing to the grand finale in November to compete for the overall prize of N2.5 million.
