25 Osun PDP lawmakers defect to Accord, pledge support for Adeleke

Twenty-five members of the Osun State House of Assembly elected under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the Accord Party.

The development was confirmed on Friday in a statement issued by the speaker’s chief press secretary, Olamide Tiamiyu, who said the decision was reached during a parliamentary meeting of the lawmakers.

According to the statement, the legislators had resigned their membership of the PDP weeks earlier, and after deep reflection and wide consultations with supporters, political associates, and key stakeholders, they resolved to align with Accord.

The lawmakers said they were convinced that Accord offers a more stable and inclusive platform through which they could effectively serve the people of Osun State. They stressed the need to identify with a political party that aligns with their core values and development agenda.

After the parliamentary session, they proceeded to the Banquet Hall to meet with the governor and top Accord leaders, where the formal declaration was officially made by the speaker.

They reaffirmed their unwavering support for the governor, as well as their commitment to quality representation, transparency, and responsive leadership.

The lawmakers further noted that their decision to join the governor’s party was aimed at ensuring continuity in governance and accelerating development for the people of Osun State.
