BREAKING: South-South ADC leaders back Amaechi for president

Leaders of the South-South zone of the African Democratic Congress have declared their full support for former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, in his bid for the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.

The endorsement was announced in a press briefing on Friday by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who said the decision was reached unanimously by leaders of the zone after a meeting.

According to him, Amaechi formally informed the leaders of his intention to contest for the presidency, a move the group described as respectful and commendable.

“In the process, we are glad that our son, His Excellency Chibuike Amaechi, took advantage of this meeting to brief us formally of his intention to run for the presidency of our great nation. We were very pleased. We thank him for the respect he has for the leaders of the zone,” Odigie-Oyegun said.

He added that the leaders appreciated Amaechi’s decision not to establish personal political structures before consulting stakeholders in the region, describing the gesture as responsible and exemplary.

Odigie-Oyegun stated that a unanimous decision was taken to give Amaechi all the support he requires in pursuit of his ambition.

The South-South leaders also resolved to hold regular meetings to strengthen collaboration and share experiences, with a view to positioning the zone as a model for other regions of the country.

They further expressed hope that the build-up to the 2027 elections would be peaceful, urging the government to ensure stability and avoid violence during the electoral process while reaffirming the party’s commitment to intensify preparations ahead of the polls.
