Ondo YPP threatens lawsuit over alleged inclusion in Rainbow Coalition

The Ondo State chapter of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) has threatened legal action against promoters of the purported Rainbow Coalition over the alleged unauthorised use of its name and that of its chairman, Dotun Ojon.
The party gave the promoters seven days to withdraw claims linking it and Ojon to the political group, insisting that neither the party nor its chairman had endorsed or participated in the coalition.
In a statement issued in Akure on Wednesday, the party, through the Special Assistant to its Chairman, Kehinde Zachariah, said it had no knowledge of or involvement in the formation and activities of the group.
It also dismissed claims that Ojon had engaged with an individual identified as Adesanya, stating that the party chairman had neither met nor held discussions with him.
The YPP described its purported association with the coalition as misleading, alleging that its name and identity were being used to create a false impression of its support for an arrangement it had not approved.
Consequently, the party demanded the removal of the publication from all platforms where it had appeared, a public apology to Ojon and the party, and a written assurance that their names and identities would not be used again without authorisation.
The party said it had directed its legal team to pursue the matter, warning that it would seek redress in court, including damages for alleged defamation and unauthorised use of its identity, if the demands were not met.
It stressed that failure to comply with the demands within seven days would leave it with no option but to commence legal proceedings against the coalition’s promoters.
