Sanwo-Olu highlights capital market’s role in funding Lagos infrastructure

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has highlighted the role of the capital market in financing infrastructure development, saying funds raised through bond issuances have helped deliver major projects across the state.
Sanwo-Olu spoke at the 30th Annual Stockbrokers Conference of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, where he shared the state’s experience in leveraging the capital market to support economic growth and infrastructure development.
The governor said Lagos had made effective use of opportunities in the capital market over the last four years, noting that funds raised through bond issuances had supported the financing of critical infrastructure projects.
Among the projects he listed were the extension of the Lagos Blue Line rail to Trade Fair, the 280-bed Ojo Specialist Hospital and the new Massey Children’s Hospital.
According to him, access to capital market funding has provided the state with opportunities to finance major projects while strengthening its capacity to deliver infrastructure needed for economic development.
Sanwo-Olu also stressed that attracting investments required a conducive business environment, sound planning and a willingness to embrace innovative ideas. He said his administration remained committed to creating these conditions to attract more investors to Lagos.
He added that the state’s economic strategy was focused on attracting investment, expanding opportunities for businesses and ensuring that economic growth translated into tangible improvements in residents’ lives.
The governor said Lagos would continue to explore opportunities to deepen investment and strengthen its economic base through partnerships and innovative financing mechanisms.
