My visit to Tinubu was for governance, not politics— Bauchi gov

Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has dismissed speculations of a possible defection to the ruling party following his meeting with President Bola Tinubu, insisting he remains a committed member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking after the visit on Friday, Mohammed clarified that his trip to the Presidential Villa was strictly for governance, security concerns, and not politics.

The governor also said he met the President to brief him on the worsening insecurity in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, where bandits have reportedly taken control of ungoverned forest areas linked to the Daji Dam axis.

According to him, sporadic clashes between security agencies and armed groups have escalated, raising fears of a looming humanitarian crisis as residents flee their homes.

“I came on behalf of the people and government of Bauchi State to seek special presidential intervention,” he said, adding that many residents are relocating to neighboring states and local governments out of fear.

Mohammed disclosed that he personally visited the affected communities alongside heads of security agencies before submitting a report to the President.

The Bauchi governor described the President’s response as “very positive,” noting that directives have already been issued.

He said the Federal Government is currently undertaking security operations in states like Kwara State and Niger State facing similar threats.
