32 Artillery Brigade gets new commander as Garba takes over in Akure

The Nigerian Army has appointed Brig.-Gen. Jibril Garba as the new commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Cantonment, Akure, following the redeployment of Brig.-Gen. Justin Ifeanyi.

Garba officially assumed command on Friday during a change of baton ceremony held at the brigade headquarters in Akure, Ondo State, in line with military tradition.

In his farewell address, the outgoing commander thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for the opportunity to lead the brigade, saying the appointment enabled him to contribute to national security and the development of the Nigerian Army.

“I appreciate the Chief of Army Staff for the confidence reposed in me. I am equally grateful to the officers and soldiers of the brigade for their loyalty, resilience, discipline and unwavering support throughout my tour of duty,” Ifeanyi said.

He noted that the commitment of personnel led to significant operational and administrative achievements, urging them to extend the same cooperation and loyalty to the new commander.

“Discipline remains the bedrock of this brigade. Maintain the existing standard, avoid the misuse of social media and always conduct yourselves in line with the Nigerian Army Social Media Policy,” he added.

The ceremony featured the signing of handing and taking over documents, the transfer of the command flag, the lowering and hoisting of the brigade’s command flag at the Quarter Guard, as well as a farewell parade and group photograph.

The change of command marks the commencement of Brig.-Gen. Garba’s tenure as the 15th Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, with the Nigerian Army expressing confidence in a seamless transition of leadership.
