521 shortlisted as Edo civil service commission begins recruitment

The Edo State Civil Service Commission has commenced the recruitment of new workers, with 521 applicants shortlisted from 1,857 applications received for the exercise.

Chairman of the Commission, Samuel Ozemhonyelea Oko-Ose, disclosed this during the commencement of the computer-based test (CBT) at Block D, Edo State Secretariat Complex, Benin City.

Oko-Ose said the recruitment was designed to provide equal opportunities for qualified applicants, assuring candidates that the selection process would be based on merit, fairness and equity.

He explained that the process began with vacancy advertisements in newspapers, the Edo Bulletin and social media platforms, after which qualified applicants were shortlisted for the CBT.

According to him, successful candidates will proceed to interviews before final employment letters are issued.

Encouraging the applicants, Oko-Ose said the civil service offered opportunities for hardworking and disciplined officers to rise through the ranks, adding “The Service holds bright prospects for hardworking persons. It is not where you started but your destination. Some who are here might end up as permanent secretaries or directors, among other esteemed positions in the Service”.

The chairman also assured applicants that the exercise was free from discrimination based on tribe, sex or colour, stressing the Commission’s commitment to inclusion and fairness.

Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Information Communication Technology Agency, Engr. Jonathan Ukpebor, confirmed that 1,857 applications were received, with 521 candidates shortlisted based on the required qualifications.
