FCT minister unveils road plan to transform Abuja Satellite Towns

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has unveiled an ambitious road development initiative aimed at transforming the economic and infrastructural landscape of Satellite Towns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The minister made the announcement on Friday during an inspection tour of ongoing projects in Karu, Karshi, and Bwari–Kubwa, emphasising that the initiative follows a presidential directive to develop a strategic and resilient road network extending beyond Abuja city centre to underserved communities.
“It’s actually a directive from the President that we develop a strategic and resilient road network across the Federal Capital Territory,” Wike said, noting that the renewed focus on Satellite Towns seeks to correct years of infrastructure imbalance and unlock economic opportunities in fast-growing communities.
A key project under the initiative is the long-delayed Apo–Karshi Road, a critical link that had stalled for years before the current administration intervened. Wike disclosed that the contract was terminated and re-awarded to SCC Construction Company to accelerate progress.
The minister also expressed satisfaction with the reconstruction of roads in Karu, handled by indigenous contractor Abdul Val Construction Company, describing the work as commendable.
Another major project is the 16–17 kilometre Bwari–Kubwa Road, expected to ease traffic flow and stimulate commerce along the axis. Wike said the road is scheduled for completion by the end of the year, along with other key infrastructure projects across the Satellite Towns.
He directed the National Commission for Civic Awareness to ensure that landscaping and environmental improvements in Karshi and neighbouring communities are completed within the year, stressing that development must be holistic.
Highlighting the broader impact, the minister noted that improved road infrastructure would enhance mobility, attract investment, raise property values, and improve residents’ overall quality of life.
