Iran-Israel War: UK deploys more troops, air defence systems to Middle East

The United Kingdom has announced the deployment of additional troops and air defence systems to the Middle East as part of what it described as defensive measures against growing threats linked to Iran.
UK Defence Secretary John Healey disclosed the move during an official visit to Gulf countries, stating that the new deployments would bring the total number of British military personnel supporting defence operations in the Gulf region and Cyprus to about 1,000.
According to Healey, the UK will send additional air defence systems and specialist personnel to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait, while also extending the deployment of Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets currently stationed in Qatar.
“My message to our Gulf partners is clear: Britain stands ready to help defend your skies,” Healey said during the visit, according to the BBC.
The UK government has maintained that its involvement in the region is limited to defensive support for allies and the protection of British interests, a position that contrasts with calls from US President Donald Trump for stronger military engagement.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer recently reiterated that Britain would not be drawn directly into the conflict but would continue to support regional stability and protect its strategic partners.
“We are not going to get dragged into this war, but we will always defend our interests and support our allies,” Starmer said earlier this week.
As part of the trip, the defence secretary visited Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain, where discussions focused on strengthening security cooperation as tensions continue to rise across the region.
