FCSC begins review to ensure seamless 2026 promotion process
The Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), Prof. Tunji Olaopa, and commissioners of the commission on Tuesday commenced a review process aimed at ensuring a seamless 2026 directorate-level promotion exercise.
The initiative was unveiled at the 2025 Directorate-Level Promotion Exercise Assessment Workshop held at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
According to Olaopa, the session was an extraordinary meeting convened to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the 2025 promotion exercise.
He said the review was necessary to address systemic and structural weaknesses identified after the 2024 exercise, noting that reforms were needed to restore the commission’s role as the gatekeeper of public service professionalism.
He explained that the commission had successfully transitioned from a manual, paper-based examination system to a computer-based test (CBT) model in the previous cycle.
Olaopa added that the current assessment would focus on consolidating that achievement while drawing lessons from the CBT process to strengthen future exercises.
He urged commissioners and officials involved in the review to go beyond criticism and instead propose practical solutions to make the 2026 exercise more efficient and credible.
“We must be guided by clarity in problem identification, with focus on solutions for every gap we identify, so that the lessons of experience and learning from today’s review will make the 2026 exercise successful and impactful,” he said.
Olaopa also noted that ongoing reforms were being addressed in collaboration with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service, adding that the process would be extended to MDAs through regular engagements with human resource directors to improve governance and strengthen institutional capacity.
