Adeleke leaves Nigeria for vacation, orders probe into Koka kingship dispute

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has left Nigeria for a vacation in Europe, with the United Kingdom among his destinations.

A statement signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, on Sunday, said the governor would also undergo medical checks during the vacation.

Adeleke, who departed through the Lagos airport, said the break was intended to enable him to refresh and further prepare for his duties.

“I am taking a short break to refresh and get further prepared to serve the good people of Osun State,” he said.

Meanwhile, the governor has directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate the emerging dispute over the kingship of Koka town in Obokun Local Government Area.

The directive followed the reported appointment of another king for Koka-Ilase, which has allegedly resulted in two kings laying claim to the same town.

Adeleke directed the ministry to review the circumstances surrounding the development and ensure due process is followed in line with the state’s chieftaincy law and tradition.

The development followed the installation by the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Larooye II, of Dr Omoniyi Yakubu Adebisi as the new Onikoka-Ogbonsẹ on Friday, September 4, 2026. The move was described as unlawful by the Onikoka of Koka-Ijesa, Oba Amos Operinmade Adejumo, who maintained that the installation of another king on the land could not stand.
