Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has inaugurated the Irun Ẹkun security outfit in Ondo South Senatorial District, urging its operatives to work with existing security agencies to combat crime.
The inauguration took place at Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area, with members of the outfit from the six local government areas in the district, traditional rulers and other stakeholders in attendance.
Igboho said the initiative was established to strengthen community security, protect lives and property, and prevent attacks on residents and public facilities across the district.
He described Irun Ẹkun as a registered security organisation established to address security challenges in the South-West. He urged its members to remain vigilant and tackle threats such as banditry, theft and other criminal activities.
At the ceremony, the activist announced the appointment of commandants for various local government areas and decorated them with their respective ranks. He also directed the newly appointed officers to commence intensive surveillance in their jurisdictions.
Igboho emphasised the importance of cooperation among the operatives, residents and established security agencies, noting that a coordinated approach was necessary to address security challenges effectively.
He further appealed to traditional rulers and community leaders to support the initiative, urging the operatives to respect local authorities and maintain cordial relationships with the communities they serve.
The ceremony, held at the football field of Ilaje High School in Igbokoda, attracted security personnel, youth leaders, traditional rulers and residents from various communities across Ondo South.
