The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Sharafadeen Alli, has urged Governor Seyi Makinde to halt further sales and allocations of government-owned lands to private individuals and developers.
Alli made the call in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director of his campaign organisation, Bisi Oladele, expressing concern over what he described as the arbitrary sale and allocation of public lands by the state government.
The APC chieftain said the government should focus on preserving and expanding the state’s assets rather than disposing of them, stressing that public properties should be managed in the interest of residents.
“It is a worrisome situation where it is the same government that is selling off the state’s assets and infrastructure,” Alli said.
He maintained that Makinde had a responsibility to protect public assets and ensure they remained beneficial to the people of Oyo State.
Specifically, Alli called for an immediate halt to any planned sale or allocation of the Cheshire Home land to private developers, expressing concern over the proposed transaction.
“We therefore demand an immediate halt to any contemplated sale or allocation of Cheshire Home land to private developers and insist that all transactions involving public assets be subjected to the highest standards of transparency and accountability,” the statement said.
Alli further urged the state government to ensure transparency and accountability in all dealings involving public assets, insisting that decisions on government-owned lands should prioritise the public interest and the long-term welfare of residents.
