Sanwo-Olu pledges continued support for women’s empowerment at COWLSO conference

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has pledged continued support for policies and programmes aimed at improving women’s economic opportunities and addressing challenges affecting their socio-economic well-being.
Sanwo-Olu made the commitment on Tuesday at the opening ceremony of the 26th Annual Women’s Conference organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The governor acknowledged the economic challenges confronting women and their contributions to family welfare and societal development. He said his administration would continue to prioritise women’s access to finance, entrepreneurship opportunities, quality education, affordable healthcare and a safe environment.
He also urged successful women in business, public service and other professions to mentor younger women, create opportunities for them and use their influence to dismantle barriers hindering their progress.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the annual conference provides an important platform for advancing women’s empowerment and promoting sustainable development. He stressed the need to equip women with the support and opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the state’s growth.
Meanwhile, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori commended COWLSO for bringing together women whose contributions, he said, continued to promote socio-economic development.
The chairman and convener of COWLSO, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, reflecting on the committee’s activities over the past seven years, urged the incoming leadership to sustain programmes designed to improve the lives of women and families. She also encouraged participants to embrace mentorship, selfless service and purposeful leadership.
Meanwhile, Oreoluwa Lesi was named Inspirational Woman of the Year in recognition of her two decades of work empowering women and girls by bridging the gender gap in technology and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
