LG allocations: Osun NLC directs affiliate unions to begin three-day sympathy strike
By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Osun State Council, has directed all its affiliate unions in the state to embark on a three-day sympathy strike from Monday over the continued withholding of local government allocations.
The strike is in support of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Osun State Council, which has been protesting the unresolved dispute over local government funds.
The directive was contained in a statement jointly signed by the NLC State Chairperson, Christopher Arapasopo, and secretary, Victor Amusan, following the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government and the Osun State Government.
The congress said the ultimatum, which demanded a resolution of the dispute over local government allocations, expired without any of the issues raised being addressed.
It said the decision to begin the strike was reached at an emergency meeting of the State Executive Council held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
It warned that any union found working against the directive would face disciplinary action. “Accordingly, all affiliate unions are directed to immediately communicate this directive in writing to their members and ensure total and full compliance across all workplaces,” the statement read.
The congress urged its affiliates to stand together in defence of workers’ rights and welfare, describing the hardship faced by NULGE members as a concern for the entire labour movement.
It said the strike was necessary to protect workers’ dignity, welfare and economic security, stressing that “an injury to one is an injury to all”.
