Atiku mocks Yari over grammar, says his blunder could ‘wake the dead’
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has criticised the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Abdulaziz Yari, over his alleged description of hungry Nigerians as lazy, mocking his grammatical expression while making the remark.
Atiku, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, said Yari’s grammatical blunder was so embarrassing that it could “wake the dead”.
He accused the President Bola Tinubu-led administration of being insensitive to the economic hardship facing Nigerians, arguing that the government’s failure to acknowledge widespread hunger had made it difficult to address the problem.
In a statement issued by his Presidential Campaign Council’s Director of Strategic Communications, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said his proposed government would prioritise social welfare and protect financially vulnerable Nigerians.
“My government will carefully invest in social welfare and stop the unfair system your government uses to take money away from people who are struggling financially in Nigeria,” he said.
Atiku also accused the APC leadership of attacking his Affordable Life campaign instead of addressing the economic difficulties confronting millions of Nigerians.
He said the criticism was ultimately directed at citizens struggling with the consequences of what he described as poor leadership.
