Tinubu urges youths to collect PVCs, participate in 2027 elections

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian youths to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in the 2027 general election, describing the poll as crucial to their future.

Tinubu spoke on Saturday at the APC presidential campaign rally in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he urged young Nigerians to collect their PVCs and participate in the 2027 general election.

The President said young Nigerians had a responsibility to use their voting power to determine the country’s direction, insisting that the future of the nation depended on their participation in the electoral process.

“To the youth of Nigeria, I am looking at you. This election is about you; it is not about me. Your future depends on this election,” Tinubu said.

He urged those yet to collect their PVCs to do so, describing the voter card as an important instrument for choosing the country’s economic direction.

“If you have not collected yours, please go ahead and collect it. I beg you. The weapon you have against poverty is to elect progressive development of our economy. That is what I am pursuing,” he said.

Tinubu also defended his administration’s economic reforms, saying the progress recorded so far should be sustained rather than reversed.

“This progress has no reverse gear,” he said.

Highlighting his administration’s achievements, the President listed increased revenue allocations to state governments, the clearance of outstanding pension and gratuity obligations, investments in education, skills acquisition and youth empowerment among the gains of the reforms.

He said his administration was also addressing inherited pension and gratuity arrears running into billions and trillions of naira, to ensure retired workers received their entitlements.

“The people who governed before us left unpaid pensions and gratuities running into billions and trillions of naira. We are clearing that backlog so that every family is included and we can share in the prosperity,” he said.
