Tinubu tackles Obi over Anambra erosion, takes swipe at Atiku

President Bola Tinubu has criticised former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, questioning their capacity to lead Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election.

Tinubu made the remarks on Friday while addressing supporters at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The President particularly questioned Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State, accusing him of failing to address the persistent erosion problem in the state.

He contrasted Obi’s administration with his own tenure as Lagos State governor, saying leadership required the courage to confront difficult challenges.

“He ran away from erosion in Anambra State. He could not confront erosion. I, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, confronted the Atlantic Ocean,” he said.

Tinubu also questioned Obi’s political consistency, citing his movement from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party and subsequently to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), under which he is seeking the presidency in 2027.

He argued that Obi’s political movements raised questions about his loyalty and ability to provide stable leadership at the national level.

Turning to Atiku, the President also took a swipe at the former vice-president, recalling the PDP’s political history and questioning the opposition’s suitability to govern the country.

Tinubu, however, commended Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno for what he described as his commitment to the development and welfare of the people.
