2027: Ondo APM candidate insists South-West must retain presidency

By Boye Oyeyemi

The African Peoples Movement (APM) senatorial candidate for Ondo Central, Sunday Falae, has said the South-West should retain the presidency for another four years to complete its expected eight-year turn in power.

Falae stated this while speaking with journalists in Akure, Ondo State, arguing that the 2027 presidential contest should ideally be between President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of the APM.

He explained that his decision to join the APM was influenced by his position that he would not campaign against a Yoruba presidential candidate. He added that this was also why he declined to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to him, the emergence of either Tinubu or Makinde as president would ensure that the South-West completes an eight-year presidential tenure, following the eight years served by former President Muhammadu Buhari from the North.

Although Falae acknowledged that Tinubu deserved a second term, he argued that Makinde could offer an even stronger option, citing his performance in Oyo State, energy and leadership capacity.

He said, “Does Tinubu deserve a second term? Yes. Does Makinde deserve it? Even better. That means he has the energy, and he has done well in Oyo State.”

Speaking on his senatorial ambition, Falae said he decided to contest because Ondo Central had suffered what he described as inadequate representation, particularly over the last four years, leaving constituents dissatisfied with the performance of their incumbent lawmaker.

The APM candidate added that his visits to all six local government areas in the district exposed widespread complaints about representation, convincing him to seek election to the Senate to provide what he described as effective representation for the constituency.
