ADC faction dissolves David Mark-led NWC, adopts Kachikwu as 2027 presidential candidate

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissolved the David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC) and endorsed former presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, as its flagbearer for the 2027 presidential election.

The decision was taken during the faction’s national convention and presidential primary held on Sunday in Abuja, where delegates adopted Kachikwu through a voice vote.

Following the dissolution of the party leadership, the faction announced a new set of national officers to pilot its affairs ahead of the next general election.

Those named include Kingsley Oggah as chairman of the Board of Trustees, Abdulkadir Bashir as national chairman, Johnny Derek as national secretary, Kennedy O. Odion as national treasurer, Amirigoye as national financial secretary and Chris Ugwu as national legal adviser.

Speaking after receiving the party flag, Kachikwu said Nigeria was facing serious challenges, including insecurity, unemployment, economic hardship and growing divisions among citizens.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us and must not be controlled by a few privileged interests,” he said, adding that the mass exodus of middle-class Nigerians reflected widespread frustration with the current state of the country.

Kachikwu described the ADC as a credible political alternative capable of restoring hope and confidence among Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.

Earlier, Oggah described the convention as a defining moment for the faction, while Bashir urged members to remain committed to the party’s constitution and work towards strengthening the ADC despite internal disagreements.
