Atiku sends New Year message to Nigerians, urges accountability in 2025
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has extended heartfelt New Year greetings to Nigerians, describing 2025 as a pivotal year for fostering accountability and safeguarding democracy.
In a statement personally signed by him, Atiku emphasized the importance of citizen vigilance in holding political leaders accountable, urging Nigerians to actively monitor governance at all levels to prevent abuse of power and protect democratic principles.
“This New Year is not just a marker of time but an opportunity to redefine our national dialogue and ensure that no individual or group wields unchecked authority,” he said.
Reflecting on the challenges of 2024, Atiku described the past year as a “sobering glimpse” into the pressing need for government transparency and accountability.
Despite the hardships, he expressed gratitude to God for granting Nigerians the resilience to witness another year, adding that their faith and determination would continue to guide the nation forward.
“The trials of the past year have fortified our faith. Our belief in divine protection has been our guiding light, and this unwavering spirit will propel us into the opportunities of 2025,” Atiku remarked.
He called for unity and collective effort in addressing the nation’s economic and social challenges, urging Nigerians to reject divisive rhetoric along ethnic and religious lines.
“Good governance is achieved through unity and determination. Let us stand together against attempts to fragment our nation for personal or political gain,” he stated.
Atiku also prayed for a revitalized economy in the New Year, envisioning a Nigeria free from the “suffocating grip of economic hardship.” He appealed to citizens to remain resolute in their pursuit of a safer, stronger, and more inclusive nation, while remembering those lost to the country’s persistent challenges.
As Nigerians celebrate the arrival of 2025, Atiku called for a renewed commitment to the principles of liberty and justice. Quoting the adage, “eternal vigilance is the price of liberty,” he implored citizens to guard against any encroachment on their fundamental rights.
Concluding his message, Atiku wished all Nigerians a prosperous New Year filled with blessings and success, urging them to seize the opportunities ahead for national growth and transformation.
