Bandits storm crusade ground in Ekiti, kill pastor, abduct worshippers

Residents of Eda Oniyo in Ilejemeje LGA of Ekiti State were thrown into panic on Tuesday night after suspected bandits attacked a church crusade, killing a pastor and abducting several worshippers.
The incident occurred during an open-air programme organised on the outskirts of the community, where dozens had gathered for prayers.
Witnesses said the gunmen invaded the venue and fired gunshots, causing confusion as worshippers fled in different directions.
“They came suddenly and started shooting. People ran into the bush to save their lives,” a resident said.
Sources told newsmen that the attackers operated for several minutes before escaping into a nearby forest with an unknown number of victims.
Confirming the development, the Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Pius Alaba, said the number of abducted persons could not be immediately verified, noting that efforts are ongoing to ascertain the exact number of victims.
Reacting, the Spokesperson for Ekiti State Police Command, SP Sunday Abutu, also confirmed the incident, stressing that investigations had commenced and efforts were ongoing to rescue the victims and apprehend the attackers.
