2027: Ondo APC leaders fault Kekemeke’s senatorial bid, cite violation of zoning

Some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State have kicked against the senatorial ambition of the party’s South-West National Vice Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, describing the move as “inappropriate.”

The party leaders, from Agadagba-Obon in Ese-Odo Local Government Area, conveyed their discontent in a petition addressed to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

They argued that Kekemeke’s decision to vie for the Ondo South Senatorial ticket was ill-timed, especially given the political balancing arrangements within the district.

Kekemeke had recently declared interest in the seat following the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Raising further objections, the leaders noted that the aspirant shares the same LGA with Ambassador Sola Iji and the same federal constituency as Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, warning that such overlap could undermine equity.

They also contended that his ambition may contravene relevant provisions of the Electoral Act, particularly regarding resignation requirements for political appointees.

“It will be morally wrong for him to pursue this ambition under the current circumstances, considering the need for fairness and balance in our political structure,” the petition stated.

The leaders added, “Hon. Kekemeke must tender his resignation from his positions and provide evidence of compliance, as this is crucial to uphold the law and protect the integrity of the party.”
