BREAKING: Oyo security surveillance aircraft finally arrives

The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of its long-awaited security surveillance aircraft as part of efforts to strengthen intelligence gathering and security operations across the state.

The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, and is expected to support aerial surveillance, intelligence collection and rapid response to security threats within Oyo State and neighbouring areas.

The development follows Governor Seyi Makinde’s earlier announcement that his administration would acquire modern aerial surveillance equipment to complement ongoing measures aimed at tackling insecurity, including kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities.

Security sources said the aircraft would operate alongside existing security agencies, the Oyo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, and other intelligence units to monitor forests, border communities and identified security flashpoints across the state.

The new security asset is expected to improve the state’s ability to track criminal activities, gather real-time intelligence and strengthen coordination among security formations.

The arrival of the aircraft also comes amid other investments by the Oyo State Government in security infrastructure, including the provision of operational vehicles, communication equipment and logistics support for security agencies.

Although details of its deployment schedule and operational structure have not been officially released, government sources confirmed that the aircraft has been delivered and would soon be integrated into the state’s security operations.
