Gov Makinde says surveillance aircraft will boost Oyo security operations

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said the arrival of two security surveillance aircraft will strengthen the state’s security operations and improve response to criminal activities.

The governor stated this on Tuesday while speaking with journalists after taking delivery of the aircraft at the Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Ibadan.

Makinde explained that the decision to acquire the aircraft was influenced by the large landmass of Oyo State and the need to support security personnel with aerial monitoring capabilities.

He said the aircraft were part of a long-term security strategy aimed at enabling security agencies to monitor wider areas of the state more effectively and respond quickly to threats.

The governor stressed that the procurement was not a reaction to the recent kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area, but a proactive measure to strengthen the state’s security framework.

Makinde disclosed that the aircraft would be deployed immediately and were flown into the state by Nigerian Air Force pilots under a Memorandum of Understanding between the Oyo State Government and the Nigerian Air Force.

He also expressed satisfaction over the safe rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire, assuring residents that his administration would continue to prioritise security and the welfare of the people.

The governor added that maintaining a secure environment remains essential for development and reiterated his commitment to working with security agencies to protect lives and property across Oyo State.
