Tragedy struck a household in Supare-Akoko area of Ondo State when a man identified simply as Ife allegedly murdered his mother.
The victim, said to be a health officer, was discovered dead in her residence on Thursday afternoon after she was reportedly attacked by her son.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the suspect was earlier seen holding a stick, raising suspicion among residents who questioned him about its intended use.
He, however, reportedly claimed that he planned to use it for cooking.
When Western Post visited the area, residents were seen gathered in clusters, discussing the development in somber tones.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the incident occurred shortly after the deceased returned home to pick up an item.
The source said, “People saw him earlier in the day with a stick and questioned him, but he said he wanted to cook. Sadly, the woman only came home to pick something before the incident happened. We also heard that he had previously been aggressive towards his mother.”
Another resident revealed that operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, had arrested the suspect and removed the deceased’s body from the scene, adding that the suspect was likely involved in substance abuse, a factor some community members believe contributed to the incident.
