City Boy Movement denies links to Adepoju Salako over alleged U.S. fraud conviction
The City Boy Movement has denied any association with Adepoju Babatunde Salako following reports linking him to the organisation amid allegations of fraud and a reported conviction in the United States.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the group described claims circulating on social media and online platforms suggesting Salako was affiliated with the movement as false and misleading.
The statement, signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Mohammed Abdullahi, said Salako had never been a member, official, or representative of the group at any level.
According to the movement, the clarification became necessary after attempts were made to connect Salako to the organisation in relation to criminal proceedings reportedly involving fraud-related offences in the United States.
“Mr. Adepoju Babatunde Salako is not a member of the City Boy Movement and has never held any office, appointment or official position whatsoever within the structure of the Movement at the national, zonal, state, diaspora or international level,” the statement said.
The organisation further stated that Salako was never authorised to act on behalf of the movement as a coordinator, campaign official, spokesperson, mobilisation officer, or representative in the United States or any other country.
It stressed that the group was completely dissociating itself from Salako and from any publication attempting to establish a relationship between him and the movement.
The City Boy Movement also alleged that efforts to link Salako to the organisation were part of a campaign aimed at damaging the image of pro-President Bola Ahmed Tinubu support groups and the ruling progressive bloc.
