Disu tasks newly promoted police chiefs on integrity, accountability

Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has charged 13 newly promoted Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and 17 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and accountability in the discharge of their duties.

Speaking on Tuesday during the decoration ceremony of the senior officers, Disu said the promotions marked the beginning of greater responsibilities rather than a reward for past achievements. He described the elevation as recognition of the officers’ dedication, resilience and years of exemplary service to the Nigeria Police Force.

The IGP noted that the officers had earned the confidence of the force through their professionalism and commitment, while acknowledging the sacrifices police personnel make, including prolonged separation from their families, difficult working conditions and the pressure of meeting public expectations.

“This rank is not merely a reward for past achievements. It represents the Force’s confidence in your future contributions. Your character will serve as the example, and your discipline will set the standard,” Disu said.

He urged the newly promoted officers to reject corruption, abuse of power and other forms of misconduct, while demonstrating compassion toward officers under their command and mentoring junior personnel.

Disu also stressed the need to build a modern, intelligence-driven and technology-oriented police force anchored on strong community partnerships, saying public trust remains critical to effective policing and crime prevention.

The police chief reaffirmed the commitment of the force leadership to improving officers’ welfare, capacity development and professional growth, while appreciating the families of the promoted officers for their support and sacrifices throughout their careers.

He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his continued support for the Nigeria Police Force and commended the Police Service Commission (PSC) for conducting what he described as a transparent, fair and credible promotion exercise. He urged the officers to wear their new ranks with humility and provide exemplary leadership for younger officers.
