Ekiti man arraigned over alleged unlawful possession of 240 SIM cards, drugs

A 28-year-old man, Tope Falodu, has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, over the alleged unlawful possession of 240 SIM cards and substances suspected to be illicit drugs.

The prosecution alleged that Falodu was found in possession of the SIM cards without lawful justification, alongside the substances suspected to be illicit drugs.

Prosecutor ASP Akinwale Oriyomi told the court that the alleged offences occurred at about 3 p.m. on September 14, 2026, in Ado-Ekiti.

According to Oriyomi, the alleged possession of the SIM cards contravened Section 345 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021, while the drug-related allegation was said to violate Section 5(b) of the Indian Hemp Act, LFN 2004.

The prosecutor urged the court to consider the allegations against Falodu in accordance with the applicable laws.

However, defence counsel Oluwafemi Alabi applied for bail, assuring the court that his client would remain available for trial and provide a reliable surety.

Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted Falodu bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties required to provide the same amount.

The court adjourned the case until October 20, 2026, for further hearing.
