The Federal Government has disbursed more than N20 billion to support 4,362 primary healthcare centres across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) over the past two years.
This was disclosed by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, in a statement issued by Rabiu Ibrahim, spokesperson to the Minister of Information, on Wednesday.
Speaking at the Government–Citizens Engagement Forum organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna, the minister said the funds were released through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) to strengthen frontline health services.
Prof. Pate also revealed that the Federal Government has implemented 274 projects in 35 tertiary hospitals across Northern Nigeria, benefiting over 4.5 million outpatients and 1.6 million inpatients.
“These investments are a clear demonstration of the Tinubu administration’s commitment to improving health outcomes through concrete actions,” Pate stated.
He emphasized that the government’s healthcare strategy includes enhancing infrastructure at all levels—primary, secondary, and tertiary—to ensure more equitable access to quality services across the country.
The initiative, he noted, aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s broader health agenda aimed at achieving universal health coverage and boosting the efficiency of healthcare delivery systems nationwide.
