The Federal Government announced on Monday that it has begun the distribution of an additional 10 trucks of 50kg rice to each state, to be sold at designated centers for N40,000 per bag.

Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, revealed this initiative while addressing State House reporters following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

Idris acknowledged the heightened tension and calls for nationwide protests due to increased hardship in recent months. He assured that there is no need for protests as the government is addressing most of the demands put forward by the organizers.

The minister disclosed that the distribution of 10 trucks of rice to each state is part of the government’s measures to tackle poverty and the high cost of living.

“The last Council meeting announced that 20 trucks of rice had been given to state governors for distribution to the poorest of the poor in society,” Idris said. “But the government did not stop there. Additional rice is being sold at about 50% of its cost. A bag of rice is now being sold for N40,000.”

“This rice has been taken to various centers across all the states of the Federation, and is being sold at N40,000. Centers have been created so that those in need can buy this rice at the reduced price,” he added.
