Gbajabiamila to lead Tinubu’s delegation to Canada investment conference
President Bola Tinubu has appointed his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to lead a high-level Federal Government delegation to Canada for the inaugural Nigeria Diaspora Investment Economic Conference (NIDEC 2026), as the administration steps up efforts to attract foreign direct investment and deepen economic ties with the Nigerian diaspora.
The conference, scheduled for August 12 to 15 in Toronto, will bring together government officials, investors, business leaders and members of the Nigerian diaspora to explore investment opportunities in Nigeria under the theme, “Invest Nigeria, Thrive Abroad.”
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), which announced the delegation on Thursday, said the participation of senior government officials underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to leveraging the economic influence of Nigerians abroad to drive investment, trade and economic growth.
NiDCOM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the conference as a major platform for strengthening economic cooperation between Nigeria and Canada.
“The high-level government delegation to the conference showcases the President’s commitment to promoting trade, investment and economic cooperation between Nigeria and Canada,” she said.
According to the commission, the delegation includes Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the governors of Anambra, Borno, Kaduna, Plateau and Zamfara states.
Other members are representatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Revenue Service, the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council and the National Information Technology Development Agency.
Canadian officials expected at the conference include President of the Treasury Board Shafqat Ali, Ontario Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism Graham McGregor, Ontario Minister of Women and Economic Opportunities Charmaine Williams, Mayor of Brampton Patrick Brown and other senior government representatives.
