JUST IN: Suspected transformer vandal gets electrocuted in Ondo

Panic gripped residents of Omifon community in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State after a suspected transformer vandal was electrocuted while allegedly attempting to steal electrical equipment.
According to sources in the community, the yet-to-be-identified man was reportedly tampering with an armored cable connected to a power transformer when the incident occurred.
Speaking on the grounds of anonymity, a resident disclosed that electricity supply was active when the vandalism occurred, thereby exposing the suspect to a high-voltage current.
The source further explained that the electric shock proved fatal as the man died on the spot during the process of vandalising the installation.
Western Post confirmed that the corpse of the deceased was evacuated upon the arrival of officials from the Benin Electricity Distribution Company.
The incident which stirred concern among residents of the community has got many lamenting about the recurring cases of electricity infrastructure vandalism in the area.
Reacting to the situation, community leaders urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious movements around transformers and other public utilities to security agencies in order to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
