Kwankwaso aide says Obi displeased by OK Movement leadership tussle
The spokesperson to former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Ladipo Johnson, has said the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, is unhappy with the leadership crisis rocking the OK Movement.
Johnson disclosed this during an interview on The Morning Show on Arise Television, describing the dispute as a temporary distraction that should not derail efforts to build the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso political alliance ahead of the 2027 general election.
He urged members of the movement to avoid actions capable of creating divisions among supporters, stressing that disagreements should be resolved without undermining the group’s broader political objective.
According to Johnson, the dispute arose from differences between some members and the movement’s leadership, but expressed confidence that the issues would be resolved.
“Yes, we have, may I call it a distraction at the moment. It is not such, in my humble opinion, that would lead you to take unilateral actions that could possibly scuttle or bring bad blood within the support base of the person you purportedly want to become the president of the country,” he said.
Johnson also disclosed that Obi had been briefed on the situation and was dissatisfied with the development.
“I saw the presidential candidate last night along with the DG. He’s not happy about the whole situation,” he added.
The comments come amid reports of internal disagreements within the OK Movement, a platform established to mobilise support for the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso alliance ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Despite the crisis, Johnson maintained that the disagreement should not distract supporters from building what he described as a viable political alternative.
