The Kwara State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Olaoluwa Joshua Onifade, has assured prospective corps members and their parents that the state remains safe, describing the temporary orientation camp at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, as secure and conducive for participants.
Onifade gave the assurance on Wednesday while speaking with journalists at the temporary orientation camp. He said the relocation of the camp was necessitated by concerns and misinformation about insecurity, stressing that the current environment is peaceful and well-secured.
According to him, the welfare and safety of corps members remain a top priority for both the federal and state governments. He noted that adequate measures had been put in place to protect participants throughout their service year.
“We know that it is God who keeps us alive, but within our capacity, both the federal and state governments have put measures in place to ensure the safety of corps members so they can have a memorable and positive service year,” Onifade said.
The coordinator disclosed that the camp is currently hosting members of the 2026 Batch B Orientation Course, with about 2,000 corps members undergoing the mandatory three-week orientation programme.
He explained that the NYSC scheme is built around three key components: orientation, primary assignment and personal development. According to him, the programme is designed to prepare corps members for national service while equipping them with life-enhancing skills.
Onifade said the scheme also helps corps members overcome fears, particularly concerns about insecurity, while exposing them to various skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes that can support their future careers and businesses.
He added that whenever corps members need to travel or leave the camp on official grounds, their parents are duly informed. He noted that the NYSC ensures participants are released early enough for their journeys and takes necessary precautions to guarantee their safety.
