KWASIEC tasks political parties to abide by electoral rules

As the local government elections draw nearer in Kwara State, Chairman of the State’s Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) Okanla Baba, on Friday charged all political parties to abide by the election guidelines and rules.
Western Post reports that the local government elections would be held across the 16 councils on September 21.
Baba pledged that all political parties would be treated equally by the electoral umpire.
He made this known at the interactive session with the leadership of all the Registered Political Parties in Ilorin.
The KWASIEC Chairman urged the parties to duly inform the electoral body date, time and venue of their primaries for proper monitoring.
In his reaction, the state Chairman, People’s Democratic Party(PDP) Babatunde Mohammed lamented that kwarans have been expecting the conduct of local government election for the past five years but nothing of such happened.
He urged the umpire to ensure it gives level play ground to all political parties as well as conduct a transparent,free, fair local government election.
The state Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) Prince Sunday Fagbemi, commended the electoral body for the adequate information about the forthcoming election.
Among other issues discussed at the meeting was form fees for the offices of Chairmanship and Councilorship.
The meeting was attended by 17 political parties.
